INFORMATION GLEEMED BY SANDY & GIGI AT ON OCT. 3, 2007 AT THE MEETING CONDUCTED BY SUPERINTENDENT Doug Gephart & Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Bill Stephens at MISSION SAN JOSE HIGH SCHOOL. The following is only our interpretation and not deemed reliable information.
The conclusion we have arrived at for eliminating the overcrowding issue is for the parents of all Mission San Jose to organize a fund raising program for portable classrooms on all schools with available land space. Our conclusion was arrived at because of the following items.
The School Board does not have the funds to provide new classrooms either by adding on the present schools by building upward. It is our understanding the School Board gets monies from sales of existing property and must be fairly distributed. Please check this information out for your self.
The current and past remedy for overcrowding has been to add classrooms (if money & space is available) lease portable classrooms (if space and money is available) and send overload students to Durham. Presently, it was reported 108 student overload exists with only 24 at Durham School. The new Sabercat development children will attend the Irvington Area schools
Gomes is the only elementary school that is not overcrowded presently
Future remedy for overcrowding might include eliminating CSR (class size reduction- 20 children K-3), developing a year round school, revise overload policy to date of residency lottery and revise master facility plan policy boundary changes to new developments.
It was emphasized at the meeting that boundary changes are a very unpopular idea and presently boundary changes are not being pursed. We find that hard to believe, how about you, since the boundary changes idea is always presented.
One of the parents made a great suggestion: Mission San Jose should organize a fund raising program to purchase more portable classrooms and not to depend on the district to provide an answer. Per Doug Gephart there is no policy against the parents providing a fund raising program to provide extra classrooms and the district would not turn the money down. We would highly suggest that you investigate this Scenario.
SOMETIMES IT IS IMPORTANT FOR PARENTS TO TAKE ACTION TO PROTECT THEIR CHILDRENS’ EDUCATIION AND THEIR REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT!!
